Research has shown that slow diaphragmatic breathing can reduce blood pressure by as much as 13.7/8.4 mmHg.  Breathing at six breaths per minute has been demonstrated to improve nervous system functioning including improving depression and irritable bowel syndrome and reducing anxiety.

The 2015 Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT), found that having a more intensive systolic blood pressure (SBP) goal of 120 mmHg in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease reduced both cardiovascular events and mortality by about 25%, compared with the current goal of 140 mmHg.
